HELLO!
My name is Kimberly Lindbergs and I’m a writer, researcher, artist, and astrologer living in Northern California. As a working-class woman managing a speech disability, I’m not immune to adversity and in my creative life, I often strive to challenge myself and my readers.
My writing has been featured in an eclectic mix of film and culture outlets, including Turner Classic Movies, FilmStruck, Cineaste, Fandor, and Publishers Weekly. My essays have also been published in Blu-ray, DVD, and CD releases by companies such as Cauldron Films, Second Sight Films, Arrow Video, and Harkit Records. In addition, I’ve enjoyed working as a volunteer researcher and archivist at local museums and libraries where I've been able to hone my investigative skills.
Revolution in 35mm: Political Violence and Resistance in Cinema from the Arthouse to the Grindhouse, 1960–1990 is the title of my first book, which is a collaboration with other writers. This comprehensive work is scheduled for publication in 2024 and examines the intersection of political movements and cinematic expression over three decades, offering readers a unique analysis of how cinema has been used as a tool for resistance and social commentary.
Along with writing, I am passionate about visual art and have explored multiple mediums including illustration, collage, assemblage, and digital design. My artistic work has been showcased in gallery exhibitions in New Orleans, Wyoming, and on various online platforms. In 2024 one of my illustrations was featured in Garbology, an anthology of pulp-style fiction.
My interests also extend into Western esotericism and in 2023 I became a certified astrologer. This fusion of historical research, artistic exploration, and esoteric inquiry shapes my creative and intellectual pursuits, enabling me to bring a distinct and multifaceted perspective to all my work.
About Beats & Transgressions:
Beats & Transgressions strives to offer readers a momentary signal amid all the noise. I write about films, books, music, television programs, art, and ideas that are often overlooked, underappreciated, or marginalized. I encourage exploration and contemplation and hope to attract like-minded seekers eager to discover new worlds or new ways of looking at the old.
This newsletter is a hub for my three blogs: Cinebeats, which focuses on film, The AstroMagick Lounge, devoted to esoteric pop culture, and Mid-Century Living, which explores American culture and design during the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. It can be difficult to keep up with one blog much less three so Beats & Transgressions should make that easier.
This is also a place where I can write about topics that may not have a home anywhere else hence the name, Beats - the regular stuff you can expect from me - and Transgressions - expect the unexpected!
